DONAGH McKeown has his roots firmly steeped in Lurgan and has returned to settle in the town.
His family were 'entrenched' in business in the town, running a wholesale drinks business and the Victoria Bar. The establishment's premises now occupied by Lurgan Forward.
He left the town as a 12-year-old and took to the road, after a stint living in Portadown, attending first St Coleman's and then Portadown College.
He then attended Queen's before trying out various career options before taking the first steps to establish himself as a radio broadcaster.
He said: "My mother worked in the Lurgan and Portadown Examiner and tried to entice me into journalism, but I had a passion for music.
"My mother heard an announcement by Gloria Hunniford, looking for people to volunteer for hospital radio, she told me about it and after the twentieth time of reminding me I had a look into it."
Donagh took to the airwaves in Craigavon Area Hospital before moving to a number of other stations including a pirate radio station in Dundalk - Z103 - which had a big following in Lurgan at the time.
He then moved on to work in Northern Sound where he began to take up more journalistic projects and moved away from music shows.
Donagh worked in Downtown Radio and then BCR - now Citybeat - before heading across the water to work in England for various radio stations, concentrating on the production element of radio rather than being on the end of the microphone.
He has still maintained his love for music and has been a mobile dj for the past 20 years, doing weddings among other functions.
He has been a keen interest in sports and even delivered match up dates for Glenavon games on radio, he still follows the blues although not as much as he used to, his real sporting passion lies with the Armagh GAA team.
Donagh, a keen sports man himself has had to tone down his sporting activities of late due to a spate of illnesses, he has been receiving treatment for depression.
He said: "There is less of a stigma attached to the illness as there once was, people should be more open to talk about it.
"I would talk it over with people and this itself helps me to over come the illness.".
Donagh is weighing up his career opportunities and is working to get back into radio broadcasting.
Donagh also has a massive interest in quiz shows, he once appeared in the popular Channel 4 programme 15-1 and was knocked out of the final three.
He is divorced and has a 16-year-old son, Matthew.
If you could trade places with anyone else for the day who would it be and why?
I am mostly happy with my life so I would not really trade with anyone else, but at a push I'd like to be Doctor Who for a day. Travelling to various points in the past like ancient Greece and Rome or into the distant future, just to see if Glenavon ever win the Champions League some day.
Describe your perfect day.
Breakfast in bed, up for a walk into the country, meet a few friends for lunch, check the web for news and emails, a rare glass of red wine, then off on a blind date to meet Michelle Pfeiffer. We live in hope.
Have you had any regrets in life?
Regrets? I've had a few, but then again too few to mention. Sorry but I can't remember any more words of the song. Very few people in life do not have some.
If you could change your job what would you do instead?
I have been very lucky in my life in that for the last twenty odd years I have worked in a profession I love. With broadcasting, particularly in speech based radio, every day and every programme is different. What other job gives you the chance to meet so many interesting people from so many different walks of life, all with a story to tell. I love to travel and would love to be an international tour guide
Party animal or slouch potato
Being a disc jockey for so many years I have spent much of my life trying to get the party atmosphere going, but I'm also quite at home lying on the couch chilling to Match of the Day or Film 4.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time
If I was allowed my trading place as Doctor Who I could actually have given you an exact answer to this one. I hope wherever it is I am healthy and content.
Who are what has had the biggest influence in your life?
I would have to say having had the feeling of being loved by my family has always kept me steady even through dark days. My dad passed on his passion for sport, my mum her love of meeting and chatting with people. These days perhaps they call it noisiness. I choose to call it being friendly.
If you were stranded on a desert Island what three things would you like to have with you
I am not too materialist, I think, until I look around my living room and see collections of all sorts of gadgets and technology, lots of it for recording purposes, so I suppose the first would have to be a PC, but only if it had a broadband connection. I need some recordings of the human voice, either spoken or sung, preferably the works of Stevie Wonder.
Would you describe yourself as competitive
Most definitely in some ways, I have always desired to be a winner, either on the sporting field, in quizzes or in the working world. I have mellowed enough in the last few years to enjoy some challenges in the work environment, but I have never subscribed to the "dog eat dog" mentality. I would never have been a Gordon Gekko type, more like Gordon the Gopher perhaps. Besides, there are plenty of opportunities in life without walking over anyone else to get them
Are you environmentally friendly.
Yes, I would always smile and say hello if I met David Bellamy. I am an aspiring environmentalist rather than an inspiring one.
Could you bear to be parted from your mobile for a week?
I know my mobile would have to be surgically removed to achieve such a result. It is a necessity for work and socially for such a while, I would feel positively naked without it. Mind you I remember when we used to communicate by pigeon mail.
