AS part of its continued drive to promote hurling at all levels within the county, the Armagh Hurling Board have announced new sponsors for their various club competitions.
The underage and adult leagues and championships are to be sponsored in 2008 by McCreanor and Co Architects from Lurgan.
This includes the senior leagues (divisions 1 and 2), the senior and junior championships along with all underage leagues a
nd championships from U12 to Minor level. McCreanor and Co Architects also made a sizable sponsor contribution to the hugely successful Armagh Féile na Gael which was won by Céide Lamh Dhearg, beating a superb Armagh Cúchulainns side with an injury time point.
The Paddy McCormack Cup is a new competition that will be contested for the first time in 2008. It will run during the months of June and July and will ensure that there is a continuous games programme for all club players while the senior county team members concentrate on the Christy Ring Cup campaign.
Paddy McCormack was originally from Cork but has been associated with Céide hurling for many years. Father of former county star Jim, grandfather of current county stars Barry and Paul, the McCormack name is synonymous with hurling in Armagh and this competition will be a fitting tribute to the late Paddy McCormack.
The sponsors of the new Paddy McCormack Cup are Nugents (suppliers to the catering and licensed industries). This Lurgan based company have been huge supporters of Armagh GAA for several years and 2008 sees the company extend their sponsorship to promote the development of hurling within the county.
Paul Kelly, the new Armagh Hurling Chairman, is delighted to have secured these new sponsorships and stated that both sponsorships are significant and will be 100 per cent re-invested for the continual development of hurling within the county.
He expressed sincere gratitude to the new sponsors and ensured them that all efforts will be employed by the Hurling Board make the relationship mutually beneficial.
