Urgent sea defence needed to protectLondonderry line
The application - submitted by Ruairi Savage from Northern Ireland Railways - is for the development of “Rock Armour Sea Defences required as Urgent Works for protection of railway from existing storm damage.”
The works, if approved, will be carried out on lands adjacent to the main Londonderry to Coleraine railway line at Carrickhugh on the shore at Greysteel.

Hide AdA sand embankment near the site of the old Carrickhugh station on the Lough Foyle foreshore, formerly provided a natural habitat for a colony of approximately 80 Sandmartins.
As part of the mitigation strategy in advance of works netting was positioned over the existing embankment prior to the nesting season to prevent Sandmartins from roosting there.
